Blues guitarist Elvin Bishop (right) jams with harmonica player Steve Gurr during a recent appearance at Timm Walker’s College of Extended Learning course “Beginning Music Recording Workshop.” Students heard about Grammy winner Bishop’s roots in gospel music and recollections of forming the famous Butterfield Blues Band in the 1960s. He and Gurr played tunes like “What the Hell is Going On” and “Just in Case We Both Were Wrong,” and Bishop fielded questions about musicianship and the biggest changes experienced during his decades-long career. His advice to the students: “Be true to your music, but live in reality. Don’t give up your publishing when you enter the business.”
